In this guide
Bali is a long way from Europe, but with one connection it's very reachable, and there are good ways to keep fares down.
Best connecting hubs
| Hub | Why choose it |
|---|---|
| Doha | Frequent one-stop connections and a comfortable transfer airport |
| Dubai | Many daily flights from across Europe |
| Istanbul | Good links from smaller European cities |
| Singapore | Short final leg and a great stopover city |
| Kuala Lumpur | Often cheaper connections, including low-cost options |
| Abu Dhabi, Bangkok, Jakarta | Worth comparing on some dates |
Total journey time is typically 16–22 hours with one stop.
Turn the layover into a stopover
Break the journey with a night or two in Singapore, Dubai or Bangkok. It eases jet lag and adds a second destination. See Singapore in 3 days and our Dubai guide.
Cheapest months
Fares from Europe usually peak in July–August, at Christmas–New Year and during Easter and half-term holidays. They're often lower in late January to March, May, early June, October and November. Read more in cheapest time to fly to Bali.
Ways to save
- Compare departure airports. Big hubs like London, Amsterdam, Paris and Frankfurt usually have more competition.
- Consider separate tickets to Singapore or Kuala Lumpur plus a low-cost flight to Bali, but leave a long buffer and check baggage and transit rules; missed connections on separate tickets aren't protected.
- Be flexible by a few days with a price calendar.
- Set a price alert and book when the fare drops.

Which European cities have the best options?
Large hubs such as London, Amsterdam, Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Zurich and Istanbul usually have the most one-stop choices and the strongest competition. Travellers from smaller cities often save by taking a short flight or train to one of these hubs, but leave plenty of time if the tickets are separate.
Beating jet lag
Bali is 6–8 hours ahead of most of Europe. To adjust faster:
- Choose a flight that lands in the afternoon or evening, so you can go to bed at a normal local time.
- Sleep on the long leg and stay awake on arrival day until evening.
- Spend the first night near the airport, in Seminyak, Sanur or Nusa Dua, rather than driving straight to Ubud.
How long to stay
Given the journey time, most Europeans spend two to three weeks in Bali, often combining it with Lombok and the Gili Islands, or a stopover in Singapore or Bangkok. With only one week, stay in one or two areas to limit travel time.
